PLATE 04 · SHADED FOLIO

Powder/Ombre Brows Course

Hair-stroke brows are drawn line by line. Powder and ombre brows are built up in tone. This course teaches you to shade a mapped brow softly, so it fades from a light front into a defined tail with no hard edges.

PLATE 04 · A

Course Overview

A powder brow looks like softly applied brow powder. An ombre brow gives that finish direction: lighter at the front, deepening through the arch and tail. Both need the same skills: an accurate map, controlled machine work and a clear sense of how pigment builds in the skin.

We teach shading as a drawing discipline. You start with symmetry and structure. Then you learn to lay down tone in gradual passes, judge saturation as you go and keep the edges soft. The aim is a brow that looks deliberate and even, not blocked in.

WHO IT IS FOR

Artists who want to add shaded brows to their skills

Beginners who prefer soft, makeup-style brows to hair strokes

Hair-stroke artists adding shading for clients with oily skin or sparse brows

Beauty professionals planning a move into cosmetic tattoo

Each row is a skill you practise, from the first measured line to the final soft edge. For the theory behind these techniques, see our Powder and Ombre Brows guide and the Brow Mapping Guide.

04.B1
Brow mapping & symmetry
Measuring the start, arch and tail so the shaded shape suits the face
04.B2
Skin assessment
Reading skin type and understanding how it affects the way shading heals
04.C1
Powder fill
Building even, pixelated tone in light layers
04.C2
Ombre gradient
Controlling density from a soft front to a defined tail
04.D1
Pigment placement & colour choice
Matching tone to skin and hair, and placing pigment at a consistent depth
04.D2
Soft edges & refinement
Removing hard borders and checking that both brows are balanced

COURSE STRUCTURE

How the Plate Is Drawn

The course moves from theory to controlled practice. We confirm the duration, training format, dates and what is included when you enquire.

01

Foundations

Skin, hygiene, colour theory and how shaded brows differ from hair strokes.

02

Mapping

Drawing symmetrical brow shapes and planning where the tone will build.

03

Shading & Refinement

Machine control, powder fill and gradients, then reviewing your work with a trainer to correct balance and saturation.

Client with closed eyes while a gloved technician uses a fine brush or applicator to shape or apply product to the eyebrow.

PLATE 04 · TRAINERS & STUDENT WORK

Taught Stroke by Stroke, Layer by Layer

Shading is easiest to learn when someone can see what your hand is doing. Our trainers demonstrate each stage, then watch you work. They show you where tone is too heavy, where an edge needs softening and how to keep both brows in balance.

Meet the team and learn about their teaching approach on Our Trainers. To see real brows by students, visit the Student Work Gallery.

Powder/Ombre Course Questions

You’ll find more answers in the Brow Course FAQ, or you can contact the academy.

What is the difference between powder and ombre brows?

A powder brow has an even, soft tone throughout. An ombre brow uses the same technique but varies the density, from lighter at the front to deeper at the tail.

Do I need hair-stroke experience first?

Shading is a technique in its own right, and it starts with mapping and skin assessment. Tell us about your background when you enquire, and we can talk through where you should start.

How long is the course and what is included?

We confirm the duration, format, dates and inclusions with you directly. Send an enquiry and we will go through the current details.

Can I combine shading with hair strokes later?

Yes. That blend is the focus of the Combination Brows Course, which builds on the shading skills you learn here.
